A cute West Wales cottage got an online auction really buzzing when  it was offered for sale at just £5,000.

While an adjacent plot of land, to the rear of the cottage, went for a single bid of just £1.

The sale of the traditional two bedroom cottage, Y Bwthyn, at Llwynygroes, near Tregaron, in Ceredigion, created a storm of interest.

Positive pre auction profile translated to a flurry of online bids when the property was offered for sale by Paul Fosh Auctions.

Eventually a total of nine bidders battled to secure the property lodging some 48 bids before the cottage sold for eight-times guide, at £40,500.

The nearby parcel of land, listed as a separate lot with a guide price of just £1, sold for £1 to a single bid.

Gemma Vaughan, of Paul Fosh Auction, said: “The two-bedroom bungalow, in the rural hamlet of  Llwynygroes which lies within arguably one of the most beautiful and desirable rural locations in South Wales, needs work but appears to have great potential.

“The property is located within the scenic Cambrian Mountains and could be ideal for those looking for a project to renovate and resell or perhaps looking for a holiday let opportunities.

“It’s fair to say that the property, which offers easy access to the Cors Caron Nature Reserve and the A485 linking to Lampeter and Aberystwyth, does require comprehensive renovation but the basics appear to be there with a lounge, kitchen, shower room, WC and the bedrooms.”
