A budding artist has been recognised for his exceptional commitment with a regional competition success.

Will Glanville, a Year 4 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, secured victory over the May Bank Holiday weekend at the Llanelian Open Art showcase for his watercolour painting entitled ‘Pheasant’.

This feat was even more significant as Will won the U14 category that attracted more than 70 entries, despite being only eight-years-old.

Will’s watercolour earned him a cash prize, the coveted Llanelian Art Competition Cup and a signed photo of Darth Vader from actor Spencer Wilding, who played the iconic villain in the recent Star Wars epic Rogue One.

The talented artists was also approached after the event by a North Wales art gallery who expressed an interest in hanging and selling some of his past work.

He also turned-down a sale of “Pheasant” in favour of giving the painting to his Grandad as a 90th birthday present.

    Mother Nicky Glanville, said:

“Will was initially a little reluctant to enter his watercolour into the competition as there was some amazing artwork by some talented teenagers.

    “We’re very proud of him.”

This is the latest in a long line of achievements for the pupil, who is thriving in all areas of Prep School life and has been a huge contributor to football and rugby success during the academic year.

His hilarious and charismatic performance was one of the driving forces behind the success of the recent Year 4 play, which took on the William Shakespeare comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
