Woodfieldside group stays connected thanks to support

Woodfieldside Senior Citizens Group has been able to continue staying connected thanks to funding from Caerphilly County Borough Council.

The group, who have been running for over 30 years, recently found themselves struggling to cover the costs of travelling to meetings and activities, due to the rising costs of transport.

Community Connectors, based within the Council’s Caerphilly Cares Team, helped the group overcome this issue by working with Paramount Travel to arrange transport for members of the group to their weekly sessions and one off activities, including their annual Christmas meal.

One of the group members, Mrs Baker, said “I have been a member of the Woodfieldside Senior Citizens Group for 31 years.  The friendship, love and kindness shown there has been beyond reproach.  I’m thankful for the help of Caerphilly Council being there to support us.”

Mrs Nash, a group member from Penllwyn, added “Caerphilly Council I’d like to thank you for the funding you are providing to keep our transport running.”

The Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Communities and Age-Friendly Champion, Cllr Carol Andrews commented “This group is a fantastic example of a community coming together to tackle the issues of loneliness and isolation.

“We understand the challenges faced by groups, such as this, as a result of the current cost of living crisis; but also recognise that the support they provide local communities has never been more important, so we’re delighted to be able to offer our support and help them continue their excellent work.”
