Work is now underway on a new development of 34 much-needed social homes at Pentrechwyth Road in Bon-y-Maen, Swansea, with local councillor Paul Lloyd joining Codi, Life Property Group and Hopgrove Construction to mark the occasion at a recent breaking ground event.

The scheme will transform a brownfield site, formerly home to a car sales lot and small industrial complex, into high-quality new homes for local people. The buildings on site had fallen into disrepair following a fire in 2020, and the land has since been cleared and prepared by development partner Life Property Group Ltd.

Once complete, the fully social rent development will provide a mix of houses and apartments, including one- and two-bedroom flats, adapted homes, and family houses, helping to meet a range of local housing needs.

Councillor Paul Lloyd, ward councillor for Bonymaen, was invited to view progress and hear more about the plans to bring the land back into positive use.

The development is being delivered by Codi in partnership with Life Property Group Ltd, with funding support of approximately £6.5 million from the Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grant programme. Planning permission for housing on the site had previously been approved.

Work began on site in February 2026, and the development will be delivered over the coming months as part of Codi’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality, affordable homes for communities across Swansea.

Claire Tristam, Director of Development (West) at Codi, said:

“We’re delighted to see work begin at Pentrechwyth Road and to welcome Councillor Lloyd to mark this important milestone. This development will bring a long-vacant brownfield site back into positive use, providing 34 high-quality social homes for local people and families who need them most. Working with Life Property Group Ltd and Welsh Government, we’re proud to be delivering homes that will make a lasting difference to the community.”

    Councillor Paul Lloyd added:

“I was pleased to be at the breaking ground event earlier this week. This development will provide much-needed, high-quality homes in a sustainable location.”
