BBC Radio Wales’ Wynne Evans joined Keep Wales Tidy and a crew of litter picking pirates in Cardiff to clean-up the local area on international ‘Talk Like a Pirate Day’.
All hands on deck at Sophia Gardens on Saturday 19 September as litter picking pirates stormed the area in search of litter treasure as part of Keep Wales Tidy and BBC Radio Wales’ ‘Make a difference’ campaign.
Wynne Evans got stuck in and collected a whole bag of litter treasure and stopped it ending up at Davy Jones Locker. Keep Wales Tidy are working with Hubbub, The Rivers Trust, and other partners to keep Wales’s rivers ship-shape and to stop litter reaching the seven seas.
The campaign to help make Wales a greener, safer and cleaner place, is taking place across the country encouraging volunteers to join some of BBC Radio Wales’ biggest names at clean-ups in Cardiff, Swansea and Colwyn Bay.

“Litter picking is a great thing to do and you feel very community spirited when you do it. It instils in children the need to not drop litter in the very first place. So, if you can, go along to your local litter pick and help out.”
Keep Wales Tidy Chief Executive Lesley Jones said:

Keep Wales Tidy aims to tackle the issue of litter head on, making it easier than ever to borrow equipment and take positive action to improve the community.
The ‘Make a difference’ campaign is part of Caru Cymru (a Welsh phrase meaning ‘Love Wales’) – an inclusive movement led by Keep Wales Tidy and local authority partners to eradicate litter and waste.
