Toe tapping entertainment is coming to Cowbridge this September, as Cowbridge Music Festival announces the line-up for its first ever Festival Fringe.

Running alongside the Cowbridge Music Festival, the upcoming Festival Fringe (13-16 September) will boast an array of exciting events celebrating young local musical talent and showcasing community groups.

Kicking off the Fringe festivities on the 13th September will be a jazz supper at The Bear Hotel. The hotel’s Cellars Restaurant will be transformed into a jazz club, giving locals a taste of local talent with a live performance from jazz saxophonist Ffion Wyn and a two-course meal.

On Saturday 15th September, the High Street will come to life with Brazilian rhythm, song and dance thanks to the Vale School of Samba, while Cowbridge Library will hold Remembering Debussy, a special celebration with readings and performances by flautist Carys Gittins and harpist Manon Browning.

Young musical talent will be on show that morning, when the Making Music Changing Lives orchestra arrives from Ely with their version of El Sistema, proving what talent can do if only given the chance. Young soloists from South Wales will take to the stage later that day.

Of recent Royal Wedding fame, Welsh soprano Elin Manahan Thomas will also be joining the Festival Fringe ahead of her performance as part of the main programme.

The classical singing star from Gorseinon will join local singing group With Music in Mind to perform a programme of songs from the musicals and traditional Welsh favourites at the Duke of Wellington on Sunday 17th September.

The final day of the programme also includes a Sunday brunch at Oscars of Cowbridge, where visitors can savour a special menu and enjoy performances from local jazz musicians Dave Jones, Ashley Long John and Iolo Whelan.

Festival Director Mary Elliott Rose says:

“We’re thrilled to announce Cowbridge Music Festival Fringe and celebrate the talent of local young musicians and showcase the tremendous work of local music groups.

“As we get ready to celebrate our 10th anniversary in 2019, we want Cowbridge Music Festival to be a celebration of not only international musical excellence, but also our community’s own rich musical heritage.

“The Fringe allows us to offer free events and to bring the performances out of the traditional venues and into a more informal setting, where more people are able to experience what the festival has to offer.”
