Visitors to this weekend’s Gower Show will mark the success of a body which has delivered more than 50 projects to help care for the peninsula.

The show, at Penrice Castle Park from 11am-4pm on Sunday, will feature a marquee celebrating the work of the Gower Landscape Partnership.

Throughout the day the partnership will host presentations, discussions and other activities highlighting the successes of the past four years, including the launch of the Gower Heritage Walking App.

The partnership’s projects include work to preserve The Vile, an ancient field system at Rhossili, the conservation of features such as dry stone walls and a programme of environmental education.

Robert Francis-Davies, cabinet member for investment, regeneration and tourism at Swansea Council – the lead partner, said: “The Gower Landscape Partnership has inspired and helped local people to look after the area’s special and distinctive features.

“It’s right that it is saluted at the Gower Show and I do hope that visitors take time to learn about its work and to be further inspired to help make the area thrive in future years.”

Gower attracts tourists from around the world, is home to a varied selection of businesses and – in 1956 – became Britain’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Partners in the Gower Landscape Partnership include Swansea Council, Natural Resources Wales, The Gower Society and the National Trust. The programme has received funding through the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Welsh Government Rural Communities Rural Development Programme 2007-13 and 2014-20, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government.

Whilst the Gower Landscape Partnership now ends as a body the positive impact that the programme has had within Gower will be continued through a number of projects that aim to be delivered as part of its legacy. Work on Gower conservation and heritage will also continue through Swansea Rural Development Partnership as supported by the Rural Development Programme 2014-20.
