New orders prompt AB Glass to kickstart recruitment drive

AB Glass, the award-winning architectural aluminium and access control specialist, has kickstarted a recruitment drive designed to ensure it has the right people and skillsets in place after a robust start to the year and a rapidly growing order book.

The company, like many other firms in the construction business, is enjoying a period of growth and expansion as the industry makes up for lost time following the disruption of the pandemic. Its order book is now valued at £5 million, comprising £4 million in confirmed orders for 2022, and a further £1 million for next year.

Its order book contains a combination of residential, commercial and public sector work, working with the likes of universities, local authorities and blue-chip contractors. It also comes on the back of the business expanding its production capacity last year when it invested a six-figure sum to build a new 3,000 sq ft storage unit.

On the back of this growth, it has implemented a focused recruitment plan designed to expand its workforce across roles that span manufacturing and administrative roles. The approach will also focus heavily on ensuring there is a clear succession pathway for new recruits that allows for the development of specific skills and attainable progression.

This will also include a focus on internal promotions when possible, something it has always championed. Many of its long-term employees have developed their careers while working for AB Glass and secured promotions internally. The company is also a strong advocate of apprenticeships, seeing them as a gateway into the construction industry.

Nigel Harvey, Managing Director, AB Glass, said:

“We are excited for the upcoming period of sustained expansion following the confirmation of a large volume of orders spanning into 2023. Taking a focused approach to recruiting trainees and apprentices is important to us as a company as we implement a development plan for new recruits and existing staff.”
