Burglar Aaron Goode has been jailed following a burglary on New Year’s Eve where he was restrained and placed under a citizen’s arrest after he broke into a man’s house and fought him.
Goode, 24, from Cardiff pleaded with the victim to release him before the officers arrived to arrest him.
Goode and another thief targeted a number of homes on December 31, 2022, the first burglary occurred after he and the other man gained access to a Ford Focus outside a house in Lisvane. They stole a credit card, and keys to an old address.
At the second address they burgled, two jackets worth £500 each were taken, as well as £1,000 watch. They also stole keys to a Range Rover which they got inside of, and attempted to drive off. Goode was unsuccessful at the next property where he was caught and detained by the homeowners.
Detective Constable Dafydd Beck commented:
“This was a serious and complex investigation which resulted in both burglars being charged with several burglaries. I would also like to commend the actions of one particular resident who, faced with two unknown intruders in his own home, managed to apprehend Goode which ultimately led to the arrest of both suspects.
“The actions of Goode and his accomplices on that night has had a severe impact on many residents living within the Lisvane area of Cardiff. Their actions could not go unpunished, and this sentence means that he cannot continue to commit such serious crime.
“South Wales Police will continue to take robust action against such individuals that think they can enter the homes of people and take their belongings without any repercussions.”
Goode was sentenced to a total of four years imprisonment at Cardiff Crown Court last week.
