Lesley Joseph has joined the cast of the Olivier-Award nominated Sister Act The Musical, which will be bringing divine comedy to Wales Millennium Centre when it visits Cardiff from 13-18 November on its tour of the UK and Ireland.

Television and stage star Lesley Joseph will be playing Mother Superior. Lesley’s theatre credits include playing Miss Hannigan in Annie, her Olivier Award nominated performance as Frau Blucher in Young Frankenstein, as well as performing in Calendar Girls and Hot Flush!. Lesley is best known for playing Dorien Green in the hugely successful sitcom Birds of a Feather.  She has also starred in ITV’s “Night and Day” and appeared on BBC One’s “Strictly Come Dancing”, Channel 4’s “Celebrity Coach Trip”, and most recently BBC One’s “Celebrity MasterChef”.

Landi Oshinowo (Sister Act, Shrek The Musical, Matilda The Musical) will be playing the role of Deloris Van Cartier and Lizzie Bea will be playing the role of Sister Mary Roberts. Lizzie’s theatre credits include Heathers The Musical, Hairspray, A Christmas Carol and the UK Tour of Kinky Boots.

Alfie Parker (School of Rock, the UK tours of Kinky Boots, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat) will be playing Eddie Souther. Curtis Jackson will be played by Ian Gareth-Jones (Only Fools and Horses The Musical, Mary Poppins, Mrs Henderson Presents, Billy Elliot, and the UK tours of Mamma Mia, Chicago and Thoroughly Modern Millie).

They will be joined by Isabel Canning, Jackie Pulford, Phillip Arran, Lori Hayley Fox, Wendy-Lee Purdy, Bradley Judge, Damian Buhagiar, Callum Martin, Castell Parker, Esme Laudat, Amber Kennedy, Joseph Connor, Ceris Hine, Eloise Runnette, Sheri Lineham and Michael Ward.

Based on the iconic movie, this sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, sisterhood and music tells the hilarious story of the disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder. Under protective custody she is hidden in the one place she won’t be found – a convent! Disguised as a nun and under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.

Sister Act The Musical has direction by Bill Buckhurst, choreography by Alistair David, Set and Costume Design by Morgan Large, Lighting Design by Tim Mitchell, Sound Design by Tom Marshall and Musical Supervision by Stephen Brooker. Casting is by Stuart Burt.

Sister Act The Musical features original music by Tony® and 8-time Oscar® winner Alan Menken (Disney’s Aladdin, Enchanted), lyrics by Glenn Slater, book by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner with additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane. Sister Act is produced by Jamie Wilson and Whoopi Goldberg.

Graeme Farrow, Wales Millennium Centre’s Artistic Director, said: “This divine musical will rescue me (and you) by making us shout for joy. Hail Holy Queen – our favourite nun-on-the run is coming to Cardiff!”
