A Neath Port Talbot Council project to refurbish and renew the play area at Port Talbot’s Talbot Memorial Park has been completed.

The work, which began in July this year, has involved the removal of ageing equipment, general repairs and the addition of a back-to-back children’s roundabout.

The play area has also been equipped with a new ‘Boat Climber’ multi-play unit for toddlers offering 10 activities which encourage imaginative games and play.

It also has a new ‘Fireman’s Tower’ with a bannister slide, scramble net, slide hooped climber plus a look-out tower and platforms.

The new additions, repairs and refurbishment to the popular park’s play area adds to the new equipment installed there using the Pantymoch Solar Farm Fund in 2017, bringing the total investment to £82,000.

The project comes under the council’s Additional Works Programme – Equipped Play Area Refurbishment fund.

Cllr Scott Jones, Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet Member for Streetscene, said: “Our play areas and open spaces are really valued by residents across Neath Port Talbot, providing free, outdoor fun for families.

“Our Additional Works Programme is breathing new life into more of the county borough’s play areas , repairing, restoring and revitalising these spaces where they have become tired, damaged or outdated over time.”

The council recently played a part in a refurbishment and renewal project at Parc Siencyn Powell in Cwmavon (completed in August this year).

The authority now has plans for similar projects at Mount Pleasant, Hillside in Neath South, Victoria Gardens in Neath Town Centre, James Field in Briton Ferry, Cimla Common in Neath and Tollgate Park in Margam.
