Men’s Sheds projects in Swansea are being invited to apply for funding.

Once again Swansea Council is supporting the network in the city with grant funding of £25,000.

Men’s Sheds are community spaces where people from all backgrounds can meet, chat and take part in activities if they wish, to reduce loneliness and isolation.

They are part of an expanding network around Swansea and the UK.

Applications are now open for the new funding which is available to existing and emerging groups and is also open to groups that have been assisted in the past.

In the last financial year grants ranging from £1,000 to £7,000 were awarded to Action Shack (pictured), The Old Blacksmiths, Chop Wood Carry Water, Oguf Adullum, Summit Good, Swansea Wellbeing Centre, The Old Blacksmiths, Swansea Community Workshop, Dyfatty Bowls and LGBT Cymru.

Applications for this year’s grants need to be submitted by September 1.

Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Supporting Communities, Cllr Alyson Pugh, said: “I’m over the moon that once again Swansea Council is supporting the Men’s Shed network in the city.

“They have a really positive impact on health, well-being and in reducing social isolation by drawing on the wealth of skills and experience that exists within our communities.

“I’ve been lucky enough to visit many of these groups in Swansea to see the life-changing impact they can have on those involved.

“I would urge any groups that may qualify to get in touch, whether they are established or just getting started, as our Tackling Poverty team are available for a friendly chat and advice about the opportunities for support that are available.”
