More than 5,000 new businesses were set up in Wales this summer, according to new research from R3, the UK’s insolvency and restructuring trade body. R3’s analysis of data provided by Creditsafe shows there were 5,014 start-ups in Wales over the summer months – an increase of 7.1% on last year’s figure of 4,683. Welsh start-up numbers peaked in August of this year, when 1,693 firms were launched, after falling between June (1,672) and July (1,649). A North Wales container-based storage company has opened its first site in Liverpool. The move is part of a major expansion into the North West by Denbigh-based Lock Stock which also has 27 storage parks across North and Mid Wales and the border counties. The new site, just under an acre in size, is on the Chapel Brook Trade Estate on Wilson Road, Huyton, and will have an initial capacity for 116 containers for self-storage. £2.1 million of funding towards a major restoration of Cardiff’s historic Central Market has been secured by Cardiff Council through The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The funding award has been made possible thanks to money raised by National Lottery players. The proposed restoration of the Grade II* Listed Victorian market is expected to require an investment of approximately £6.5 million. If full funding is secured, the restoration would see original design features revealed, traditional entrances and original stalls restored, the iconic glass roof repaired, and improvements made to the Victorian drainage system.
