A new film by Play Wales – the national charity for children’s play in Wales – captures why play is vital to children’s development, mental health, wellbeing, and happiness. Narrated by actor Matthew Rhys, the documentary was filmed over two years across Wales. It includes interviews with both children and adults talking candidly about the benefits of play, including a cameo from another Welsh film star, Michael Sheen. The service operates along a spectacular section of the Ceredigion coastline serving settlements between New Quay and Cardigan. A team of North Wales water rescue experts are behind the UK launch of a pioneering lifesaving device timed to coincide with World Drowning Prevention Day (Tuesday, July 25th). Dogs Trust, the nation’s leading dog welfare charity, has celebrated two years of supporting dogs in Cardiff with a special event at its Cardiff Rehoming Centre. In its first two years, the charity has successfully found forever homes for 1,347 dogs creating countless heartwarming stories of companionship and love. Held on Saturday, July 15th, the celebration took place at its rehoming centre, bringing together around 400 supporters, notable figures, and dog enthusiasts from across Wales, raising £1,600 for the charity. Imagery from an old Welsh myth has been given the 21stCentury treatment and now adorns the walls of a city high school, thanks to a collaboration between the Council’s graffiti removal team, pupils and local artists. The tale of Ceridwen’s cauldron was the inspiration for a project that brought together Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Plasmawr’s art department, members of the Council’s caretaking services teams and street artist Myles Hindle. Swansea Council’s free bus initiative is back for the summer holidays, offering free travel within the city. The Free Ride Swansea offer means residents will be able to travel on public transport in the city for a total of 20 days between July 28 – August 28 and operates during each weekend (Fri – Mon).
