Wales is braced for a wet and windy end to the weekend, as the Met Office issues a Yellow Weather Warning covering much of the country. After a briefly dry but cloudy start this morning, a band of heavy rain has spread northeastwards through Wales, bringing prolonged downpours and widespread strong winds. The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society’s (RWAS) board of directors has decided to end the Spring Festival, following a strategic review of activities. The move will allow the RWAS to focus on its flagship event, the Royal Welsh Show, alongside the Winter Fair, whilst also enabling several key strategic projects to progress. A 41-year-old man who shot an airgun at another man in Holyhead has been jailed. Tom Webster, of Victoria Terrace, Holyhead, appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court on Thursday 11 September where he admitted to wounding causing physical harm during an incident on 1 January 2023. Webster was on Victoria Terrace during the evening of 1 January 2023 when he shot his neighbour in the face with an airgun. A man has been charged after an elderly man was scammed of thousands of pounds by someone pretending to be a police officer. Last week we urged people to be vigilant after an 80-year-old man had £16k stolen from his home in Riverside, Cardiff. A second similar incident involving a 78-year-old man from St Mellons was reported on Monday. Nawaf Abdullahi, 20, from Islington, London, has been charged in connection with these two incidents. A farmer’s daughter from Carmarthenshire is promising to build her dad a new bridge after scooping £250,000 in the People’s Postcode Lottery. Isara Panicker, 38, from Cwrt Henri near Carmarthen, shared the £1 million Millionaire Street prize with three neighbours after their postcode, SA32 8SJ, was announced as the winner on Saturday 13 September. A total of £4 million has been allocated towards town centre regeneration projects across Mid Wales (Powys and Ceredigion) over the next two years (2025-2027). Welsh Government has made the award to Powys County Council, working in partnership with Ceredigion County Council, as part of its Transforming Towns programme.
