GlobalWelsh, a worldwide community of Welsh people and businesses, announces that Team Blackout, an F1 in Schools team from Cardiff, have won second place at the F1 in Schools World Finals competition, the first ever Welsh team to make it to a podium position. The finals which took place at Silverstone between 9th-14th July saw the team of six 15-16 year olds from St John’s College in Cardiff compete against 54 other teams from around the world. There were tears of joy when a renowned male voice choir paid a surprise visit to a care home to sing happy birthday to a much-loved former member who lives there. David Edwards, who hails from the Blaenau Ffestiniog area, had no idea that members of Côr Meibion y Brythoniaid were gathering outside Pendine Park’s Bryn Seiont Newydd in Caernarfon when they arrived to wish him many happy returns. Staff at EE’s Merthyr Tydfil call centre have been inspired to support the British Heart Foundation in a series of epic challenges, following the loss of a much-loved friend and colleague who suffered a fatal cardiac arrest at work last year. Despite the team’s best efforts, performing CPR and using a defibrillator on 42-year-old David Vaughan, who had previously shown no signs of a heart condition, he passed away suddenly after collapsing on 3rd June 2020. Since opening its doors in 2019, the historical Grade II listed hub Y Shed in Meliden, near Prestatyn, has been a hit with locals and visitors from further afield. Coordinated by Paula Stockley (who founded the appeal), the initiative aims to provide Rucksacks filled with essential items to hand out to anyone who finds themselves homeless or rough sleeping in the City.
