A fund to improve wellbeing facilities and a project to harvest fresh fruit have attracted financial support from Swansea Council. Pupils and staff at Fochriw Primary School are celebrating after being named the Regional Winners in the ‘Better Energy School Awards’. The project ‘From Tragedy to Triumph with Fochriw’s Green Hand Gang’ was named the best entry in the ‘Totally Active’ award category for schools across Wales and Western England. As a result of all the hard work the children and staff, Crumlin High Level Primary School have recently been awarded with a ‘Plastic Clever School’ award. The campaign run by Kids Against Plastic is committed to helping schools succeed in their efforts to fight single-use plastic and have created all of the resources a school (with pupils leading the way) needs. A scheme to redevelop 1-4 Oxford Buildings in Mountain Ash has now been completed, after RCT Council worked with partners to bring the prominent vacant buildings back in to use. 1-4 Oxford buildings have been a key feature to the south-east entrance to Mountain Ash town Centre for over 100 years, although the buildings had been left vacant for a number of years. Rhondda Cynon Taf Mayor, Councillor Jill Bonetto, has praised the work of community radio station GTFM as it extends its FM coverage to the Cynon Valley following permission granted by Ofcom to build relay transmitters. The new service was officially launched (on Frinday, June 11) during a live broadcast in Aberdare by the Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Councillor Jill Bonetto.
