Wales’ first electric-powered refuse collection vehicle has been launched this week by Newport City Council. The vehicle, which went into service today, will be used on collection rounds across the city, but in particular will service areas such as Caerleon which the council have designated as priorities in terms of reducing emissions to help improve air quality levels. Welsh shoppers will now be able to recycle cling film, crisp packets and salad bags at their local Tesco store as the supermarket rolls out the biggest network of soft plastic collection points in the UK. The police force tasked with safeguarding the largest land area in Wales has transformed its recruitment process after reaping the rewards from its work-based learning programmes. Dyfed-Powys Police employs more than 2,000 personnel who cover vast swathes of Mid and West Wales, safeguarding 515,000 people along with hundreds of thousands of visitors that flood into the area every year.
