CHILDREN at a Gresford nursery will be making the most of unwanted wooden pallets and old truck tyres donated by a Wrexham distribution firm. McCarthy Distribution, based on Wrexham Industrial Estate, delivered the items to Homestead Nursery where they will be used outside to construct treehouses, adventure trails and other structures for the children to play on or turned into work stations inside for them to sit at and paint or play. Nuclear specialists from the UK and Australian industrial/defence specialists joined forces in London to formalise a multi-million-pound agreement set to benefit businesses on both sides of the hemisphere. Talented chainsaw sculptor Paul Morris is busy carving his latest masterpiece – a five foot tall gorilla. The giant ape will take pride of place among a magnificent menagerie of wooden wild creatures at the Pendine Park care organisation in Wrexham where Paul works as part of the gardening and maintenance team. The leafy 11-acre grounds on the outskirts of the town are already home to a grizzly bear, giant squirrels, owls and hawks. Students from Nicola Peros Ballet Academy, who come from all over the Vale of Glamorgan and Cardiff, will represent Team Wales at the prestigious tournament in Italy this summer. They will be performing in both solo and group dances at the event, for which thousands of children from 62 countries have auditioned. The event is described as “the greatest all-genre dance competition in the world for children and young adults”. Organisers Midland Manor Motor Club have opened entries to the April 18 event and have announced that the iconic and little-used Myherin stage has been added to the itinerary.
