Vulnerable households in Wales continue to struggle as new government statistics reveal there were 1,400 excess winter deaths during 2018/19, partly caused by people living in cold and poorly insulated homes they can’t afford to adequately heat. Excess winter deaths are defined as the difference between the number of deaths in the winter months (December to March) compared with the previous (August to November) and following (April to July) three months. Diversions and road closures are set to come into force across Cardiff next month as thousands of rugby fans flock to the capital for the Six Nations. Cardiff Bus has announced which routes will be affected in the city centre when the competition visits the Principality Stadium over the next couple of months. A man who died in Glynneath on Monday has been named as 73-year-old David Williams. His family have described him as a ‘loving and generous person’. Mr Williams’ body was found in the Danygraig Lane area of Pontwalby, Glynneath, on Monday, January 27. A 28-year-old local man, arrested on suspicion of murder, remains in police custody.
