Cardiff and Vale College played host to some of the best young culinary talent in the country who battled it out in a series of Skills Competition Wales Hospitality and Catering finals. Economy Minister, Ken Skates also called in to see the budding chefs compete. Cardiff and Vale College has partnered with Dow to launch its first apprenticeship scheme with a local college, designed to provide students with practical hands-on knowledge for their futures. A pensioner has been jailed for 16 years for multiple sexual offences against a child. Peter John Smith, aged 78, of Hounslow, London, was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday for seven counts of rape. He was handed a custodial term of 16 years and a further year on extended licence. Smith was found guilty after a trial in February. He was also made to sign the sex offenders’ register. The offences relate to one child and took place between 1969 and 1974 in Barry. In a victim personal statement read in court, the woman said the defendant’s actions…

South Wales Police is appealing for information after a serious assault in Cardiff. The incident happened between 11.30pm-12am on March 7 in Albany Road. An 18-year-old man remains in hospital following the assault and three men and a woman have been arrested in connection with the incident.
