Cardiff residents are set to see changes to their recycling services from this week as the council steps up efforts to hit national targets. Cardiff Council has confirmed new measures aimed at boosting recycling and composting rates, as it works towards the Welsh Government’s legal target of 70%. Police are appealing for information following the discovery of a man’s body in Cardiff. Officers were called to Radyr Weir on Monday, March 16, after reports of a body in the water. Emergency services attended and recovered the body, which was later confirmed to be that of 40-year-old Matthew Comins, from Gilfach Goch. A man has been jailed for over four years for stealing from a house in Cardiff. Lloyd Paterson, 28, of Butetown, was jailed for 54 months on March 31. This followed a guilty plea to burglary dwelling and theft – no violence at Cardiff Crown Court on February 24. Officers were called to an address on Aberystwyth Street, Splott, on July 22 at around 5.20am to reports of a burglary. Welsh Ministers have given in-principle backing to a proposal that would cap student loan interest rates at 6% for borrowers in Wales from September 2026. The move follows a proposal by the UK Government to introduce the cap on Plan 2 and Plan 3 student loans for the 2026/27 academic year.
