The second phase of work on the Menai Suspension Bridge is progressing following the installation of the scaffold under the bridge known as the Aerotruss. In order to undertake works to address an immediate safety risk posed by unsecured communication cables beneath the bridge, and to put in measures to ensure the safety of the workforce on the bridge, a short full closure of the bridge will take place next week with a lane closure before and after. South Wales Police is appealing for information following a number of deliberate fires on Gower commons which officers say are causing damage to protected wildlife and habitats. The Gower Neighbourhood Policing Team is urging anyone with information about the recent fires to come forward. South Wales Police officers are appealing for information following a serious four-vehicle collision in Port Talbot. The crash happened on Margam Road, between Groswen Park and the junction with Rhanallt Street, at around 12.22pm on Wednesday, May 6. A driver of a red Vauxhall sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital in a condition described as critical but stable. The driver of a Citroen Picasso also suffered injuries which required hospital treatment, although these are understood to be less serious. South Wales Police have successfully concluded a complex investigation into online child sexual exploitation, known as Operation Heleia. The investigation culminated in the sentencing of 19-year-old Kyle Fisher from Tonyrefail, at Cardiff Crown Court, where he received a significant prison sentence for multiple offences against minors. The case began with disturbing allegations against Fisher, who was arrested in February and September 2024 for crimes that spanned several police force areas, including Kent, Essex, and Devon & Cornwall. A teenager who was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving has been spared jail. Harley Ryan (19), was 18 at the time of the incident which occurred on Christmas Eve 2024, when he was driving along Kinnerton Road (known locally as the ‘Kinnerton Bumps’) from Pen-Y-Ffordd towards Kinnerton, with three passengers. Thousands of people turned out to make Monmouth “merry” when the free Wye Valley River Festival brought music and entertainment to the town on Saturday.
