Temperatures will fall below zero in many parts of the county overnight and remaining below zero until mid-morning tomorrow. RCT Council has been advised that arrangements for the first journey near Llwydcoed and Hirwaun have been changed at short notice, and will now take place in the daytime on Friday, January 19. Plant for an electrical power station is being transported by a specialist haulage company from the County Borough’s northern boundary with Merthyr Tydfil to Hirwaun. Monmouthshire Food Partnership are offering grants to help new and existing food-growing activities this spring. A small south Powys primary school will close if a recommendation to Cabinet is approved, the county council has said. Powys County Council is proposing to close Irfon Valley C.P. School and carried out a six-week consultation on the proposal between October and December 2023. The findings of the consultation will be considered by Cabinet on Tuesday, January 23. Cabinet will also be asked to continue with the process to close Irfon Valley C.P. School, which currently has 18 pupils. Motorists are advised to plan ahead before they travel as major road works and lane closures are set to begin on the A55 between junction 36 at the Warren Interchange and the Wales/England border at the end of January and continue until the end March. The works to repair the underlying concrete bays and resurfacing of the road will begin on the eastbound side of the carriageway followed by westbound. Activity in the housing market in Wales picked up in December, with the number of newly agreed sales reported to have risen for the first time in almost two years, as the trend towards lowered mortgage rates continues, according to the latest Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Residential Market Survey.
