The Morriston Orpheus Male Voice Choir is set for a busy September, with a special BBC Radio 4 feature and two unmissable concerts celebrating the best of Welsh choral music.
On Sunday, 14 September, the internationally renowned choir will appear on Sunday Worship on BBC Radio 4, broadcasting live from the Calon Lân Centre at Mynyddbach Chapel, Swansea, at 8:10am. The service, themed “The Invitation of Heaven”, will showcase a blend of hymns and choral pieces performed by the choir. Although the service is not open to the public, listeners across the UK will be able to tune in and experience the choir’s celebrated harmonies.
Later that same day at 4pm, the choir will host its Annual MOCSA Concert, also at the Calon Lân Centre. The event will spotlight rising Welsh talent, including special guest performances from Owain Rowlands, 25, the Young Welsh Singer of the Year, and runner-up John Rhys Liddington, 24. Both are accomplished baritones and graduates of The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Tickets are £12.
The celebrations continue on Saturday, 20 September, with a spectacular joint concert, Choral Landscapes, at St Samlet’s Church, Llansamlet, Swansea, starting at 7pm. The Morriston Orpheus will be joined by the Dalesmen Male Voice Choir from Belper, Derbyshire, for an evening of rich choral traditions. The concert will also feature a guest performance from Welsh singer Erin Jones. Tickets are £12.
These performances form part of the choir’s 90th anniversary celebrations, reflecting its proud heritage and commitment to supporting the next generation of Welsh musical talent.
