RCT Council will carry out essential scour repairs to two bridges in Ynyshir to rectify storm damage – requiring a one-way closure of the link road between the A4233 and Ynyshir Road/Aber-Rhondda Road from Tuesday.
The Llanwonno River Footbridge and Maindy Arch River Bridge were both damaged in Storm Dennis, and repairs are now able to take place due to the recent low river levels. The Council has appointed contractor Kaymac, which specialises in in-water construction, as the contractor for the scheme.
The work will begin on Tuesday, May 4, lasting around seven days. The contractor requires traffic management to make progress safely, and the link road will therefore be closed in one direction for the scheme’s duration.
Motorists will still be able to travel in a westerly direction as normal, from the A4233 Porth Relief Road onto Ynyshir Road/Aber-Rhondda Road. However, motorists will be unable to travel in the opposite direction onto the A4233.
Access will be maintained for pedestrians and emergency service vehicles. An alternative route for motorists, from the western side of the closure, is to travel north on Ynyshir Road and re-join the A4233 at Wattstown Roundabout.
The Council continues to plan infrastructure repairs as a priority following the unprecedented weather brought by Storm Dennis in February 2020. It remains committed to securing funding and making progress on schemes, such as the final section of Blaen-y-Cwm River Wall repairs which started on April 19.
