Following Estyn approval, Christ College Brecon will be accepting children from the age of four from September 2023.

The expansion is part of Christ College’s planned reconfigurations to its dedicated lower ‘Prep’ school, St Nicholas House, and follows the introduction of a Key Stage 1 class this academic year. The next phase of the development will see the integration of its junior section and Year 7-8 classes.

St Nicholas House was established in September 2014 and accommodates 60 pupils across five classes up to Year 6.

St Nicholas House Lead Teacher, Gareth Bufton, said: “We are passionate aboutmaintaining smaller ratios of children to staff so each child receives the upmost devotion and attentiveness from their peers, and this starts from the moment they enter our school. Teachers set individual learning tasks for each child to support their personal needs and one-to-one reading and phonics support is offered daily.

“We are also committed to creating calm, stimulating and enriching environments that are well resourced where pupils can thrive.”

The Reception class will follow a rich and engaging curriculum, where pupils will explore, question and challenge themselves in the safety of the school’s beautiful and extensive surroundings. An all-round education philosophy will combine a careful blend of numeracy and literacy with a wide range of other subjects, as well as a varied selection of extra-curricular activities.

Gareth Pearson, Head of Christ College Brecon said: “The addition of the Reception class in 2023 follows naturally from the introduction of our Key Stage 1 class this September and is part of our wider expansion plans for St Nicholas House. All fourteen pupils we welcomed at the start of term have settled in well to school life and we are primed to further extend our offering.

“The Reception Class teacher will be accompanied by a dedicated teaching assistant. By accepting children from the age of four, we can create a connection with them from the very start of their academic journey. We will be there for them throughout their school life and prepare them for their onward journey into their chosen career pathways.”

Registrations are now being taken for September 2023. For further information please contact [email protected]
