Free parking provides festive boost for town centres

Shoppers in town centres across the Caerphilly county borough are continuing to enjoy free parking at council-owned pay and display sites in the countdown to Christmas.

CCBC is keen to encourage residents to support their local town centres during these challenging times. A decision was made back in May 2020 to temporarily suspend parking charges and the policy was recently extended for a further 12 month period up to the end of Sept 2022.

The move has been widely welcomed by shoppers and businesses alike, but some car parks such as Crescent Road in Caerphilly, were being under-utilised. The council has promoted this and other sites in recent months in a bid to encourage more people to take advantage of the convenient location and easy access to the town centre.

Cllr Jamie Pritchard, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure & Property said, “I would like to thank the community for supporting our town centres at this critical time of year and we are pleased to do our bit by offering free parking across all our sites. There’s been a big increase in usage at our car parks, which we very much welcome. I would encourage residents to make use of our free car parks whenever they can”.
