Health board starts vaccination reserve list for 40-49 year olds

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board is setting up a reserve list as part of its vaccination programme.

Appointment letters have now been sent to all over 50’s in Cwm Taf Morgannwg and will be landing on doorsteps in the next week or two. To make sure any cancelled appointments are filled, and that no vaccine is wasted, 40 to 49 year olds can now apply to be put on the Health Board’s reserve list.

Currently it is only for people in the 40-49 age bracket and anyone who applies to be on the list must be willing to be telephoned at short notice for an appointment at one of Cwm Taf Morgannwg’s community vaccination centres (CVCs). As the Health Board moves through the priority groups, the age bracket of the reserve list will also shift, making sure that even the reserve list works in order of age.

There has been a slight increase in the number of people not showing up for their appointments at the Health Board’s CVCs.

Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB’s Director of Planning and Performance, Clare Williams, said: “I want to reassure everyone, this isn’t a big problem, but we have seen over the past couple of weeks, a small number of people fail to show for their appointments which is something we want to address.

“No vaccine has been wasted because of this, but the reserve list will make sure we continue to use every single dose available.

The appointment letters for the community vaccination centres have contact details on if you cannot make your appointment or do not wish to receive a vaccine.

Clare Williams said: “In a programme of this scale, we are really grateful when people do their absolute best to make their appointment, and we do understand that won’t always be possible.

All we’re asking is that you let us know if you won’t be turning up for whatever reason.  It could be because you don’t want the vaccine or maybe you have already been vaccinated elsewhere… whatever the reason is, please just get in touch and let us know.

“That means we can make sure your appointment goes to someone else.”

To apply to be on CTM’s vaccination reserve list, please fill in the form on our website, through this link here:  Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB vaccination reserve list application.  You will be asked to provide proof of age at any vaccination appointment.

More than one in two people living in Cwm Taf Morgannwg have already received their first dose and the Health Board is confident it will achieve its aim of vaccinating all of the priority groups (1-9) by the middle of April.

Clare Williams said:  “It’s incredible to think how much our teams have achieved in such a short period of time, we have nearly given a quarter of a million vaccines.

“That’s down to all our vaccination teams, our primary care colleagues, our local authority partners and all the various teams across so many different departments all working together to make this such a success.

“Thanks go to our communities as well, for working with us and being so patient.

“We are determined to have offered a vaccine to all adults in Cwm Taf Morgannwg by the end of July.

“I think it’s important to stress as well, that no-one is protected until we are all protected.  That means no matter whether we have had one dose or are fully vaccinated, that we all continue to follow the current rules and importantly think hands, face and space as we go about our lives and protect our communities.”
