Established in 1990, from a single branch in Anglesey, the Huws Gray Group, are now one of the largest independent builders’ merchants in the UK.  The company’s rapid growth is being driven by a determined acquisition strategy and the latest merchant to join the group is Sandysike Builders Merchants Ltd based in Carlisle, Cumbria.

The family run business has been serving Cumbria and South West Scotland for over 22 years supplying a large range of high-quality building materials, bathrooms and wood burning stoves.  Family members Melanie Forster, Stephanie Forster and Grant Kelton will remain to manage the business.

Matthew Owen, Head of Acquisitions for the Huws Gray Group, commented: “The acquisition of Sandysike marks our commitment to grow Huws Gray in the North West & beyond.  We believe the branch provides a perfect strategic location to link up with our existing site in Penrith and we welcome the opportunity it presents to start to develop our presence in Scotland.”

Owner, Graham Forster, commented: “I have been extremely fortunate to have worked with such loyal and dedicated staff over the years and I’m pleased that Mel, Steph and Grant will remain with the business as it enters a new era. With our shared emphasis on great customer service, having experienced and efficient staff, and carrying a depth of stock at the right price I’m confident that Huws Gray will take the business to the next level.”

Melanie Forster, Branch Manager, added: “We have had many great years trading as Sandysike Builders Merchants, and now I look forward to seeing Sandysike transform into Huws Gray Longtown. It will be the same faces offering a friendly and efficient service to the local area, and we will be pleased to be able to offer a much greater breadth and range of stock.”
