As part of Caerphilly County Borough Council’s ongoing asset maintenance programme, Wilkins Terrace Footbridge will be undergoing refurbishment works from Friday the 16th September 2022 for six weeks.

The council intends to remove Wilkins Terrace Footbridge and undertake the maintenance works offsite. This will mitigate the impact to traffic on the A468 / A469.

Overnight road closures of the A468 / A469 will take place from 8pm on Friday 16th September 2022 until Saturday morning at 6am to facilitate the temporary removal and subsequent reinstatement of the main footbridge span and access ramps.

Pedestrians and cyclists will be diverted to Pwll-Y-Pant roundabout to use the existing at-grade signalised pedestrian crossing in lieu of the temporary removal of the footbridge.

During the bridge removal the A468/A469 will be closed between Pwll-Y-Pant and Trecynedd Roundabouts. A Diversion route will be in place to take account of this closure. The proposed diversion route will take traffic away from Nantgarw hill via

    • the A470 to Abercynon roundabout
    • Through Nelson and Ystrad Mynach ( A472)
    • Then back onto the A469 toward Pwll – y- Pant Roundabout.

Traffic traveling west ward will follow the above diversion route in reverse direction.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience and thank you for your co-operation.
