Swansea Bay is preparing for another action-packed summer in 2025, with a thrilling calendar of sporting events set against the stunning backdrop of its award-winning coastline. From world-class triathlons to coastal trail running festivals, the region promises something for everyone, whether you’re competing, cheering from the sidelines, or simply soaking up the vibrant atmosphere.

With its sweeping beaches, rugged landscapes and buzzing seaside communities, Swansea Bay, including Mumbles and the Gower Peninsula, offers the ideal setting for active days and summer getaways.

    A UK-first for IRONMAN 70.3 in Swansea

One of the standout highlights of the season is IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea, returning on 13th July and making history as the first ever IRONMAN Pro Series Race to be held in the UK. The event will see elite and amateur athletes alike tackle a challenging course starting with a 1.2-mile (1.9km) swim at the Prince of Wales Dock, followed by a 56-mile (90km) bike ride, and finishing with a 13.1-mile (21.1km) run through Swansea’s iconic SA1, the charming village of Mumbles, and the Gower – Britain’s first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Spectators can expect breathtaking views and an electric race-day atmosphere. The IRONMAN 70.3 will return to Swansea on 12th July 2026.

Love Trails Festival: Movement, music and adventure

Also taking place from 10th to 13th July, the Love Trails Festival transforms the Gower into a haven for runners, hikers, adventurers and music lovers. This unique four-day experience combines outdoor activities by day – including scenic runs, hikes and exploration – with curated DJ sets, live music and inspiring talks in the evening.

With headline sponsors including Garmin, Salomon and Tenzing, the event continues to grow in popularity. While this year’s event is sold out, you can join the 2026 waitlist now – tickets are set to go live on 15th July and are expected to sell fast.

Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge: New for 2025

The inaugural Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge takes place on 19th–20th July, offering distances from 10K to 75km. Set in one of the UK’s most dramatic coastal landscapes, participants can expect everything from golden beaches and limestone cliffs to rugged moors and ancient woodlands.

With a festival-style basecamp featuring a bar and entertainment, it’s not just about the challenge – it’s an entire weekend of adventure. Entry starts from just £39.

Admiral Swansea Bay 10k: A city favourite returns

Rounding off the summer sport line-up, the 44th Admiral Swansea Bay 10k will be held on 14th September 2025. One of Wales’ best-loved running events, it brings together elite athletes and fun runners of all levels on a fast, flat and scenic route along the sweeping Swansea Bay shoreline.

With a loyal following and a friendly atmosphere, this event is perfect for first-time racers or those looking to smash a personal best. Entries are open now, with registration closing on 31st August.

Whether you’re lacing up your trainers or cheering from the sand dunes, Swansea Bay is the place to be this summer. With so much to experience, it’s the perfect excuse to plan your next coastal adventure.
