Visitors to Tip Treasures in Swansea will find their favourite re-use shop has been extended and refurbished to include a swish new clothing section, thanks to funding from the Welsh Government.

The popular venue at Llansamlet Recycling Centre has re-opened now that the Covid-19 restrictions are easing. Shoppers will need to wear masks indoors and keep their distance but they’ll find lots of bargains to choose from.

Tip Treasures has become one of Swansea Council’s most popular services with all the items on sale having been rescued from ending up in landfill or being recycled.

Mark Thomas, Cabinet Member for Environment Enhancement and Infrastructure Management, said the improvements to Tip Treasures means there is a lot more on offer than there was before the pandemic meant it had to close.

He said: “Tip Treasures really is going from strength to strength. The refurbished and extended shop means that for the first time we’ve been able to create a clothes department for people looking for stylish bargains with all items carefully vetted, washed, dried, steamed and if required mended before sale.

“We’ve also secured a grant from the Welsh Government which means we’re now able to rescue more furniture like tables, chairs and sofas which we can refurbish and put on sale for residents.”

Electrical goods on offer also include games consoles, flat screen TVs, vacuum cleaners and power tools, all of which have been reconditioned and PAT tested prior to going on sale.

The shop also offers a range of bikes, garden equipment, exercise and sports equipment.

Cllr Thomas said: “The Tip Treasures initiative is a win-win for everyone because we get to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfill and residents get to secure quality goods at bargain prices.

“Apart from the clothes section and the extension of the furniture and wood recycling project we have other plans to extend the range of what the store will be able to offer in the coming weeks and months.”
