Business Awards, staged in Cardiff’s City Hall. The awards celebrate innovation, growth and success, with Lightology impressing judges with its rapid rise, securing a number of high profile clients in less than two years. Judges commended Lightology for ensuring the business remains “ripe for growth” and for incorporating the concepts of sustainability and innovation into the key structure and ethos of the business.

Lightology helps businesses and community organisations across the UK review their energy use at premises including shops, factories, offices, sports stadia, warehouses and hotels. Such are the savings with LEDs that any investment in new lighting quickly proves cost-neutral to clients, which include the Principality Stadium, the Swalec Stadium, Ableworld, Glanaman Town Council, Data Powertools and i2L.

The Welsh Business Awards recognise the very best of home-grown business, from start-ups to big firms, and the fundamental role they all play in driving the Welsh economy forward. This year’s awards saw a record number of entries, up by 19% on previous years and with more companies than ever making the final shortlist. The headline sponsor was the University of Wales, while the Start-up of the Year Award was sponsored by Pro Steel Engineering.

Lightology founder Jon Davies said:

“It was enough just to be on the nomination shortlist with such an inspiring roll call of start-ups, let alone hear our name called out as the winner! We passionately believe in taking advantage of new technologies to benefit business, and our success since we launched is proof of the fantastic financial and environmental benefits LED lighting can bring. We’re now looking forward to building on this through key partnerships and further innovation including our new Lighting as a Service! (LaaS) product.”

Professor Dylan Jones-Evans, Assistant Pro-Vice Chancellor of University of South Wales, said: “This year’s awards were the most hotly contested yet and it was very heartening to see so many Welsh companies really pushing the envelope in terms of their achievements. Congratulations to everyone who was shortlisted, especially the winners.”

Lightology was established in 2016 and recently moved to new offices in Newport’s Orion Suite on Enterprise Way. One of the team’s biggest projects to date is an ongoing scheme cultivating the green, green grass of home games for the Wales rugby team and other events at the Principality Stadium using cutting-edge LED lighting systems.
