Cardiff Airport is searching for its next Chair to build on recent success and deliver an ambitious strategy for growth.

After a hugely successful four-year tenure, Roger Lewis has announced his plan to step down as Chairman of Cardiff Airport on 31st October 2019.

The new Chair will step in to head up the Cardiff Airport Board of Directors and play a pioneering role at a strategic level to deliver a thriving, sustainable airport business for Wales.

[aoa id=”1″]Since coming under ownership of the Welsh Government in 2013, Cardiff Airport has seen over 60% passenger growth, made significant improvements to the customer experience and welcomed new airlines and routes to its growing network.[/aoa]

The airport is a key strategic asset for the country and an economic driver, supporting over 1900 aviation-related jobs. In recent years the airport has also re-established its position as a vital gateway to the UK for international visitors.

Economy and Transport Minister Ken Skates, said:

“Cardiff Airport is a vital part of the economy of South Wales and of the region’s transport mix. The Chair of the board is a crucial appointment. I am looking forward to seeing the very best candidates come forward to build on the sterling work of Roger Lewis and his team.

“The foundations are in place. The new Chair will be dynamic and focussed, and will provide support, guidance and encouragement to the excellent leadership team at the airport.

“Working with the well-established board of Cardiff Airport the Chair will oversee delivery of the 20-year vision of the airport through implementation of a new Masterplan – taking the airport forward to achieving its goal of two million passengers per annum by 2021.

“With APD now recommended for devolution by the Welsh Affairs Committee, and Brexit approaching, the airport has opportunities to shape our country in the future.  The airport is now and will continue to be a key pillar of Wales’ transport infrastructure and a significant contributor to our economy.

“I look forward to working with the new Chair to deliver an optimistic, better connected future for the people of Wales.”
