The 10 finalists in St Tydfil Shopping Centre’s Pride of Merthyr 2018 photography competition have been chosen and it’s now down to the local community to decide which photo they think shows Merthyr at its best.

The competition celebrates the beauty and history of the area, and the shopping centre was inundated with entries showing the local community’s favourite places. The Mayor of Merthyr Tydfil Councillor Clive Tovey joined St Tydfil Shopping Centre’s management team to choose the 10 photos to go through to the final stage.

Those wishing to cast a vote to decide the winning photo simply need to visit St Tydfil Shopping Centre’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/sttydfilshoppingcentre, and ‘like’ their favourite photo in the designated album.  The image with the most ‘likes’ will be selected as the winner and the photographer will be rewarded with a whole host of prizes.  Voting takes place between Monday 17th September and midnight on Sunday 30th September.

Lee Simmonds, Centre Manager at St Tydfil Shopping Centre, commented:

“In total 111 entries were received all highlighting the beauty of our town.  As well as pictures showing popular locations such as Cyfarthfa Castle and Pontsticill Reservoir, we also received more personal photographs of entrants’ gardens, or of their pets enjoying the Merthyr landscape.

“It was extremely difficult narrowing the entries down to just 10 and we’d like to thank the Mayor for joining us. In addition to viewing the photos on our Facebook page, they will also be on display in the centre from Monday 17th September. Good luck to all our finalists.”

As well as receiving a hamper of prizes, the winning photographer will also see their photo go on display in the Civic Centre.
