A major milestone has been reached in the construction of the new HMT Sancta Maria Hospital in Swansea’s SA1 with the delivery and installation of a state-of-the-art MRI scanner.
The GE Signa Artist 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner weighs over 5 tonnes and will be used as an important diagnostic tool for patients when the hospital opens its doors early next year. Using the very latest technology, the MRI scanner will provide exceptional clarity of imaging and reduce scanning time for patients compared to less advanced machines. An on-site MRI scanner will vastly improve the patient experience and will increase the speed of diagnosis and treatment.
Construction of the new hospital is quickly reaching completion and it is anticipated that patients will start to receive treatment there at the beginning of February. The three operating theatres are currently being fitted out with the latest, innovative equipment by leading medical technology company, Stryker. In the coming weeks, the fit out of patient bedrooms, consulting rooms, offices and waiting areas will be completed.

Being able to provide patients with high-quality, on-site diagnostic testing is a major step forward for Sancta and was the key driver in our decision to build a new hospital. Patients will still be able to expect the same high standards and exemplary care that they currently receive at our Uplands hospital but with a much improved and more streamline patient journey from consultation to diagnosis and treatment. Despite a difficult and challenging year, we are now on the countdown to opening our SA1 facility and we are excited to start welcoming patients in the new year.”

In addition to the MRI scanner, the new hospital will also benefit from on-site parking, improved access, en-suite patient bedrooms, a café and excellent transport links.
