Discounted Swansea city centre parking to continue

Motorists parking in Swansea city centre can continue to benefit from cheaper parking charges.

Swansea Council is extending a parking offer which was first introduced in November 2020 and allows motorists the chance to park all day for just £2.

On top of the all-day charge, car owners coming into Swansea for two hours or less will only need to pay £1 for parking in any one of the city centre multi-storey car parks or one of the many pay & display car parks.

Further offers have been extended to car parks in Mumbles as well with the charge for a three-hour parking fee remaining at a reduced price from £4 down to £2.

Mark Thomas, Cabinet Member for Environment Enhancement & Infrastructure Management, said: “The coronavirus pandemic has had a severe impact on the city for well over a year. As a council, we have responded as quickly as we can to the changes to our day to day lives.

“We need to do all we can to encourage more people back in to the city centre and I’m confident shoppers, city centre workers and visitors will welcome this extension to our ongoing parking offer.”

Russell Greenslade, Chief Executive of Swansea BID (Business Improvement District) said: “This extension to the very generous car parking offer will be a great support to our city centre businesses at a time when businesses really need added footfall.

“We very much welcome this incentive, funded by Swansea Council, and we are pleased that we were able to work together to put it in place. We know it will help shoppers and visitors head back to the city centre at a time when Independent Retailers Month is getting underway throughout the whole of July. We would encourage consumers to head into Swansea city centre to support the local businesses they love.”

In recent months, there has also been a major investment to roll out a £280k upgrade to all 72 pay & display machines in Swansea to make it easier for motorists to pay for parking.

Cllr Thomas added: “As well as offering cheaper parking for the thousands of car owners visiting the city centre, we are continuing to invest in our car parks to make them more attractive and also make it easier for motorists to pay their parking fee.

“This includes resurfacing many of our city centre car parks and also installing new payment machines.”
