What Chance Do Cardiff and Swansea Have of Promotion to Premier League?

Both Cardiff and Swansea go into the 2022/23 football season and gain promotion back into the Premier League from the Championship. The Welsh clubs finished in the bottom half of the standings last year, so they will need to improve in the campaign ahead.

Cardiff was relegated from the top-flight in 2019 after finishing 18th that season, while Swansea have not played Premier League football since the 2017/18 campaign when they too finished 18th.

    The Stuff of Dreams

The Premier League is where every club in the UK aspires to be. Manchester City won the title last season, and they are currently priced at odds of 4/7 in the Premier League odds to defend their crown during this campaign. Being able to compete against the likes of City, Liverpool and Manchester United is what every Cardiff and Swansea supporter wants their club to do.

Swansea Expected to Challenge for Top Six

Swansea is currently priced at odds of 6/1 in the betting markets to be promoted at the end of the 2022/23 Championship. There are just six teams ahead of them in the market, which suggests they are likely to be in the mix for a top-six finish.

The Swans have done some good business during the summer, including signing Joe Allen on a free transfer from Stoke. The Welshman made 150 appearances for the Swans before moving to Liverpool in 2012. If he can reproduce the same level of football as he showed in his first spell at the club, it will be a big boost to Russell Martin’s side.

The Welsh club won five of their seven pre-season games heading into the campaign, which should ensure confidence is high. Martin is in his second year in charge of the club after taking over on the 21st of August.

With a good blend of experience and upcoming players in his squad, the Swansea boss will be very pleased with the players he has to choose from in the latest campaign. It should ensure the Swans perform much better than their 15th-place finish last season.

New Look Cardiff Hoping Players Can Gel Early

Prior to the start of the 2022/23 Championship campaign, Cardiff had signed 13 new players and either released or sold 16 of their squad from last season. It has been a high turnover of players in Steve Morison’s squad.

Cardiff’s new players will need to gel early if they are to be promotion contenders this season. The bookmakers make them 10/1 to be promoted either in the top two positions or through the play-offs.

Defender Mahlon Romeo has a lot of experience in the Championship. He played 221 times for Millwall before signing for Cardiff for an undisclosed fee during the summer transfer window. The 26-year-old was joined at the Cardiff City Stadium by Ebou Adams, who has been performing well at Forest Green Rovers over the last couple of years, while Sheyi Ojo has arrived from Liverpool, after previously impressing on a loan spell in Wales.

Hopefully, both Welsh clubs can be in the mix at the top end of the Championship and at least one can secure its spot in the 2023/23 Premier League campaign.
