The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) has announced that it will host the screening of submissions to the International Media Festival of Wales on its Carmarthen campus. Now in its fourth year, the festival showcases the best in innovative media from across the world, including podcasting, immersive and interactive productions, short films, and drone-based filmmaking. The UK’s Ambassador to Sweden, Samantha Job will be in South Wales this week to build connections with businesses and boost investment and trade with Sweden. Ambassador Job’s visit this week is part of a ‘domestic roadshow’ launched by the UK Government earlier this year, in which Ambassadors and High Commissioners are being asked by the Foreign Secretary to meet with businesses across the country in order to support them to expand into key growth-driving markets. South Wales Police carried out a large joint taxi operation last weekend, working alongside the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, Cardiff Council and Newport City Council taxi licensing teams. The purpose of the operation was to check that vehicles were insured, licensed and safe to be on the road. Around 130 taxis and 20 minibuses were stopped during the checks. Out of the 150 vehicles inspected, several were found with issues that resulted in enforcement action. Eleven minibuses received prohibition notices from the DVSA. Four taxis were given stop notices and six were handed improvement notices. One minibus was seized…

Swansea Council says highways teams are now working to find out what caused a sinkhole to appear on Brynymor Road at the junction with Westbury Street. Specialists have started investigations on site. The council says the road will be reinstated once they understand the reason for the ground failure and are confident repairs can be carried out safely. While this work continues, Brynymor Road is closed to traffic between Westbury Street and Eaton Crescent. Westbury Street is still open, although drivers cannot access Brynymor Road from it. The streets of Swansea sparkled with Christmas cheer for this year’s brilliant Christmas Parade. Santa kicked off the festivities at the Guildhall by illuminating the building in red and green before setting off the first of two dazzling fireworks displays. Caerphilly County Borough Council is pleased to share an update on progress at the former Meals Direct building in Rhymney, which is being transformed into a new community gym through a Community Asset Transfer (CAT) with JM Fitness CIC.
