South Wales Police is appealing for witnesses to a single-vehicle road traffic collision which left a man seriously injured in hospital. Officers were called to the scene of the collision on the A4229, near the roundabout with Porthcawl Road and the B4283, shortly after 10.45pm on Wednesday, December 23. The collision involved a blue motorcycle, which is believed to have been carrying two people. A 28-year-old man sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital in Cardiff. A number of revellers have been reported for summons after an illegal rave was shut down by South Wales and Gwent Police forces on Sunday (December 27). Officers were alerted to the unlicensed event near Pontprennau – which was also in breach of current coronavirus restrictions – at around 10.45pm. Party-goers began to disperse upon police arrival, but the details of those who remained were taken. Morriston Hospital will become the first in Wales to develop its own full-scale solar farm, at a cost of £5.7 million. Work is expected to start early next year on the 4MW development on land at Brynwhillach Farm, linked to Morriston by a 3km private wire. It will supply almost a quarter of Morriston’s power, cutting the electricity bill by around £500,000 a year and significantly reducing carbon emissions. The High Speed Rail Group (HSRG) has used its submission to Sir Peter Hendy’s Union Connectivity Review to call for seven key improvements to the rail network that would in turn strengthen the Union between the four nations of the United Kingdom. Three health boards will receive more than £10m in Welsh Government funding this year and next, to install new solar energy measures and help them improve energy efficiency across their estates, resulting in carbon and financial savings. A Llanfyrnach man has been handed a six-month suspended jail sentence for the mistreatment of dozens of equines. Alun Lloyd of Sunny Hill, Llanfyrnach, was found guilty of nine Animal Welfare Act offences split over two separate cases. He was sentenced on Tuesday (22 December) at Llanelli Magistrates Court, having previously failed to attend court. In addition to a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, Lloyd was disqualified from the keeping and owning of horses for ten years, and given £1,500 in fines and costs.
