The future of two important heritage buildings in Cardiff Bay will be safeguarded for future generations as Cardiff Council’s plans to secure ownership have been given the go-ahead. The Merchant Place/Cory’s Buildings occupy a prominent position in Cardiff Bay directly opposite the Wales Millennium Centre, but both have been empty and boarded up for over a decade. The final agreed scheme for Wellfield Road which includes a new one-way-system, a pop-up cycleway; improved facilities for pedestrians, as well as short stay parking, has been given the go-ahead with 74% of local residents surveyed supporting the new plans. Plans for a new bridge to provide a direct link from Llanrumney to the A48 at the Pentwyn junction have taken a step forward following private-sector bids to deliver the scheme. Swansea could go net carbon zero by the middle of the century under an ambitious vision agreed by the council’s Cabinet yesterda (November 19). Swansea Council has already set itself the target of being a net carbon zero council within the decade. Now Cabinet has agreed to get the ball rolling to see the target achieved for the whole city by 2050. Swansea Council’s Cabinet has agreed to offer new support to help Wales National Pool Swansea through the Covid-19 crisis. The backing will help ensure Wales’ national centre for swimming excellence is able to continue providing services to elite swimmers and community users alike. The pool is operated by Swansea University and funded jointly by the university and Swansea Council. Both organisations will be contributing to its upkeep during the pandemic.
