Health records from over 80% of the Welsh population have been used to create the UK’s first national-scale health database for dementia research, which is housed at Swansea University. Researchers have used Welsh NHS records to create the new resource – which is kept in the SAIL Databank – allowing doctors and scientists to investigate fundamental questions about dementia with greater confidence, paving the way for new treatments. They say charity begins at home, but Menter a Busnes (MaB) staff have been out and about undertaking a variety of community charity projects throughout Wales – and has revealed its principal charity for 2020. MaB staff volunteered at a Caernarfon foodbank, helped Nant Conwy Rugby Club to clear up the flood-damage caused by Storm Ciara, and cleaned Llansteffan Beach. The Shoreditch Bar Group have revealed plans for the site of Tiger Tiger Cardiff. 4G coverage in rural areas of Wales is now at record levels thanks to a big boost in the number of new masts built in recent years. EE, the UK’s largest mobile operator and part of BT Group, has revealed today that it hasswitched on nearly 1,000 4G sites across Wales since 2012, bringing coverage to areas which had no mobile coverage before. Patients in Wales could soon see virtual reality become an everyday part of their medical treatment plans, thanks to ground-breaking research and development by a Welsh tech company. Cardiff-based Rescape Innovation is pioneering the use of virtual reality (VR) to support patient recovery and rehabilitation. The company’s technology is used to solve a range of challenges found in healthcare including reducing pain and anxiety, managing stress and improving overall patient experiences.
