The Vale of Glamorgan Council will receive a £1.5 million cash injection after leasing land in Hensol for Cardiff City Football Club to build a new training base. Planning permission was approved for the development, which will involve the construction of 15 pitches in a 44-acre area opposite Hensol Villas. Another application has been approved for a two-storey central building, containing a gym, pool, treatment and dining rooms and a 123-space car park. Members of Neath Port Talbot’s Council’s Cabinet have begun the process of finding a new use for the Cross Community and Enterprise Centre in Pontardawe. At their meeting on August 7th, 2024, Cabinet members agreed to formally transfer responsibility for its management from the previous operator to the council’s Head of Property and Regeneration until a decision is made on the future use of the premises. Businesses in even more Pembrokeshire areas can now apply for funding to brighten up their properties, thanks to a Pembrokeshire County Council scheme. The Streetscape Paint Scheme Project, part of the Council’s Street Enhancement Programme, was launched earlier in the year in Milford Haven. It aims to support businesses to improve the appearance of town centre properties and help encourage footfall. The scheme was extended to Haverfordwest and then Fishguard, Pembroke, Pembroke Dock and later, Tenby. It is now being rolled out further to St Davids, Narberth, Saundersfoot and Crymych. The landslide-hit Pembrokeshire coastal path between Wisemans Bridge and Coppet Hall has reopened. The coast path between Wiseman’s Bridge and Coppet Hall/Saundersfoot, known as the Dramway, experienced ‘substantial rock falls’ late last year and this year. The January major fall happened at the Coppet Hall end of this section of path, while a November landslide was closer toward the Wisemans Bridge end. A third more recent landslip also occurred on the path. Pembrokeshire County Council commissioned work to stabilise the cliffs and tunnels to enable the path to reopen. Ystrad Rhondda Railway Station users are advised that Brook Street bridge, the main footbridge serving the station, will be brought out of use from next week for completion of contract works. A series of temporary measures will be in place to help pedestrians access the station platforms and local rail services. The large footbridge that connects Nant Gwyddon Close and Brook Street provides a key link for the community, but the old structure had reached the end of its design life. Last year local authorities in North Wales were awarded a total of £966,000 to deliver small Property Development Grants (PDGs) to improve commercial units and empty buildings in their town centres. The PDGs were delivered through the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns Programme to support regeneration and enhance town centre properties. The grant awards have supported property owners and occupiers alike to make improvements to their premises and bring vacant, commercial floor space back into beneficial business use.
