Public Health Wales is working with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board to investigate two further cases of measles which have been confirmed in the Gwent area, bringing the overall total to four cases. All four cases are linked through attendance at a healthcare setting on 21 March, and therefore an outbreak has been declared. Public Health Wales has identified contacts of the cases, and is providing their parents with advice on what action to take and information about the signs and symptoms of measles. Under proposals, changing rooms will be built at Buttrills Community Centre, located close to existing sports pitches, along with a new car park, with the current car park extended and Electric Vehicle charging points installed. A man has been sentenced for an assault in Bute Park. Philip Daniel grabbed a female jogger as she ran nearby the outdoor gym in the direction of the city centre at around 11.40am on Tuesday, January 31. The victim bravely pushed him away and made the quick decision to take a photograph of the suspect her mobile phone. Using Retrospective Facial Recognition on the mobile phone photo, officers identified the suspect as Philip Daniel, 32, from Barry – someone who was known to police. Daniel was arrested the following day, charged, and later pleaded guilty to assault by beating. On March…

New electric TrawsCymru buses running between Carmarthen and Aberystwyth have seen a 65% increase in passengers this year. Launched at the end of March 2023, the new state-of-the-art buses carried more than 100,000 passengers in their first six months in service and more recently have shown an overall increase of passengers by 65% compared to 2022/23. Each vehicle saves 3kg of CO2 per round trip, equating to nearly 13,000 cups of tea. Seventy Pembrokeshire clubs have been successful in receiving grants from the Be Active Wales Fund over the last financial year. In total the clubs received more than £407,800 from the grants scheme from Sport Wales in 2023/24. The fund backed 25 different sports, ranging from archery, basketball and cricket to sailing, short mat bowls and weightlifting and everything in between. The Be Active Wales Fund is open to applications from not for profit community clubs and groups to help develop and sustain their activities. People in south Wales can now access free online mental health therapy through a new referral system set up in partnership with Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB). For the first time, CTMUHB’s Local Primary and Child and Adolescent Mental Health services can refer clients to a suite of guided, online self-help programmes based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
