A man who strangled his partner, held a man hostage and then stole another man’s van has been jailed for five years. Dewi Cledwyn Hughes, of Twr Cuhelyn Steet, Llanerchymedd, appeared at Mold Crown Court on August 6th after being found guilty of intentional strangulation and two counts of assault by beating and pleading guilty to false imprisonment, threatening a person with a blade, aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and possession of cocaine. Pupils at Ysgol Dinas Bran recently rolled up their sleeves to learn countryside management skills. The youngsters were supported by Education Engagement Officers from Denbighshire County Council’s Llwybrau service to take part in outdoor education sessions run by Countryside Rangers around the south of the county. ‘Denbighshire Education Project – Llwybrau team’, supports young people in Denbighshire to reduce their risk of disengagement from education and provides support to re-engage in education or to move into employment or training at the end of year 11. Investment in new green technology has helped a Pontarddulais church cut its carbon footprint and make a 90% saving on its monthly gas bills Thanks to rural project funding from Swansea Council through the UK Government’s UK Shared Prosperity fund, a number of air to air heat pumps have been installed at Bont Elim Community Church on Alltiago Road. The new technology has already helped to replace some of the gas boilers and copper piping that had been in place at the church beforehand. The £3.5m Glynneath Flood Alleviation Scheme which has protected 251 homes and 23 non-residential properties from flooding has now been completed. The project was developed by Neath Port Talbot Council’s Drainage Team and its partners with support from Welsh Government funding. The project came in two phases with the first at Lancaster Close where 600 metres of pipework were laid from a new-build intake structure to the main road, going through fields and discharging into the River Neath. Additional drainage was installed upstream of the intake structure which improved the access to Gelliceibryn while at the same time ensured any…
