The £140 million revamp of Cardiff Central railway station has been given the green light as funding is approved. Improvements will include modernising the station to support long-term passenger growth, while still complementing the history and heritage of the building. Customers will benefit from a larger concourse to increase capacity, improvements to passenger flow and access, work to alleviate overcrowding and providing better accessibility for those with reduced mobility. Wales must urgently shift towards a prevention-first approach to health to address stagnating life expectancy and mounting pressures on its health services, according to the Chief Medical Officer’s Annual Report published today. The report, “Reflecting on our Health,” notes a decline in life expectancy especially in deprived areas with people now living for more years of their life with ill health. A new transitional relief scheme will help businesses manage rates changes from next April. The Welsh Government has announced an additional £116 million of support, as business rates in Wales will be updated to reflect current property values. From 1 April 2026, the revaluation will mean many will see their bills fall, while others will see them go up. South Wales Police are appealing for information after a suspicious incident on Beach Road in Pyle on Wednesday evening. The report was made just before 8pm on 3 December. Witnesses said a young woman wearing a long dark puffa coat appeared to be forced into a white Seat Leon by a man dressed in dark clothing and a baseball cap. South Wales Police have issued an appeal to help find a 16 year old boy from Merthyr Tydfil who has been reported missing. Owain was last seen at around 1pm on Tuesday 2 December and concerns are growing for his welfare. He is described as being 5ft 11 with a shaved head. Officers believe he may have travelled to the Cardiff area. The police are asking anyone who may have seen Owain, or who has any information on his whereabouts, to get in touch as soon as possible. A stretch of the A48 in Cardiff is affected by heavy surface water this morning, with police urging drivers to slow down and take extra care. According to South Wales Police, the issue is on the section between the University Hospital of Wales and the Llanedeyrn interchange. The build up of water is making conditions tricky and motorists are being reminded to adjust their speed and leave extra room for braking. Officers have thanked road users for their patience while the weather clears and conditions improve.
