Amateur football club Cardiff Cosmopolitan FC has agreed a £500 sponsorship deal with housebuilder Bellway for the 2026-27 season.
The money has allowed the club, known as the Cosmos, to provide new training tops for its first team squad, which plays in the second tier of the South Wales Premier League.
Paul Brown, Secretary of Cardiff Cosmopolitan FC, said: “We haven’t had training tops for the last few seasons so this is a real benefit for the players and we’re very grateful to Bellway for their support. We have provided 16 tops – one for each member of the match-day squad – and the players will wear them before every game. Having the tops means they can work as hard as they need during the warm-up and then have a fresh shirt in which to start the game.
“We decided to have the tops in royal blue as this matches the colour of the shorts and also provides a contrast with our red and white-striped home shirt.”
The club has two adult teams, five junior teams ranging from Under 12 to Under 16, and a youth team for ages 16 to 19. It has around 220 players on its books.
Paul said: “Our ambition for this season is to get promoted but the number one priority for every season is to avoid relegation. We want to get to as high a division as possible but not at the expense of losing our identity. We are still an amateur team and are committed to remaining as such.”
He continued: “Some of our players have moved into the area – hence the name Cosmopolitan. We open our arms to everyone and we embrace all of Cardiff so having the support of local businesses makes a huge difference.”
The Cosmos play their home games at Cardiff University Sports Fields in Llanrumney, just over two miles from the Bellway Wales base at Eastern Business Park, St Mellons. The housebuilder is building new homes at its Longwood Grange development in Lisvane, on the edge of the city.
Daniel Shone, Head of Sales for Bellway Wales, said: “As a Cardiff-based business, we’re proud to be supporting Cardiff Cosmopolitan FC for the 2026-27 season.”
He added: “The Cosmos have made great strides both on and off the pitch in recent years and we’re hoping that with our backing they can realise their ambition of gaining promotion to the top flight this season.”
