The Vale of Glamorgan Council is planning to open a new Health and Wellbeing Hub in Barry after purchasing three commercial units on Thompson Street using Welsh Government funding.

Delivered in partnership with Cardiff and Vale and Health Board and Swansea Bay Health Board, the hub will provide a variety of services in one accessible location.

It will offer a range of day opportunities and community facilities for adults with care and support needs in a building with good transport links that is close to other services.

Cllr Eddie Williams, Vale pf Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said: “This development’s central town location will make it easier for people to access the support they need leading to improved outcomes.

“It is an example of the Council’s collaborative approach, in which we work with partner organisations to deliver the best provision possible for our residents.

“Having different services in one place will create an integrated, holistic approach that is more efficient and will provide better care.

“The project is part of wider regeneration work taking place in Barry and will help bring space that was previously empty back into use.

“Elsewhere, plans are progressing to redevelop the old Wilko building on Holton Road, while increased cleansing activity through our street scene service is also already under way.”

Work has begun on designs for the interior of the building and a funding application for an internal refit will soon be submitted to Welsh Government.
