Traffic is already slowing across parts of south Wales this evening, with several busy routes reporting congestion as rush hour gets underway.

According to the latest update from Traffic Wales, the following routes are currently affected:

    • 470 northbound between Coryton and Nantgarw

    • A4232 in both directions between Culverhouse Cross and J33 Capel Llanilltern

    • M4 in both directions between J42 Earlswood and J46 Llangyfelach

    • M4 westbound between J23 Rogiet and J26 Malpas

    • M4 eastbound between J30 Cardiff Gate and J26 Malpas

Drivers are being warned to expect delays across the network as conditions remain difficult.

This comes in addition to an earlier report of flooding on the M4:

    • M4 eastbound between J26 Malpas and J25 Caerleon
Lane two remains closed due to flooding with delays of around 45 minutes in the area.

    Weather update

The Met Office says a wet and windy evening is expected across Wales as Storm Claudia continues to move through.

After a day of heavy rain and strong winds, conditions will stay unsettled overnight. Rain and gusty winds are set to continue for much of the night with some heavier spells easing by morning. It will feel chilly with temperatures dipping to around 5°C.

Further heavy rainfall is expected this evening and overnight. Storm Claudia has already delivered significant rain across parts of Wales with 81.8 mm recorded at a Natural Resources Wales rain gauge at Tafalog in Gwent between 1800 on Thursday and 1600 on Friday. This is already around 60 percent of the average rainfall for the whole of November.

Weather warnings remain in place. Amber warnings for heavy rain stay active until midnight. Yellow warnings will continue through the night until 0600 for England and Wales, with Northern Ireland under a Yellow warning until midday on Saturday.

Motorists are advised to take extra care, allow more time for journeys and keep an eye on the latest travel updates.
